A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Mirian has been dancing since the age of 5. Her professional dancing career began at the age of 14. In 2012, she began teaching samba for several studios and one year later, she launched Sweaty, Sexy, Samba Fitness.
Struggles With Weight
In the fall 1992, Mirian began to gain an immense amount of weight. Just a few months shy of her 30th birthday, she discovered she had PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) – PCOS is a metabolic disorder that disrupts your hormones, typically giving your higher-than-normal levels of insulin, which can trigger symptoms such as irregular or no periods, acne, excess hair and of course: weight gain. With little information on the subject, she underwent several diets that worked for a few years, but the weight came right back. As more research on PCOS became available, it was found that women that suffered from PCOS not only were at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, but their bodies, due to insulin resistance, have a hard time breaking down sugar/and or simple carbs. It was time to take of hold of this issue.
What to expect
Mirian believes that the beginning of any change begins with the mind, thus we have to first change the way we think and analyze how we view ourselves. She does not believe in diets, but mindful eating. The body was made to move to level of each ones comfort. The classes are exciting and with lots of energy.
